How is everybody on this... gray and crappy May Day? *G*

The sleep study was weird. I mean, it's not exactly the best night of sleep I've ever had in my life. Remember the picture of the last time I went? Well, take away the thing in my nose and add a mask, and you've got a more accurate nightmare vision. I should be getting my contraption within the next few days. I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. I mean, I didn't feel like I got any sleep the other night, but the technician said once I fell asleep, I stayed there and had a pretty long, REM-intensive sleep, which is the point. *shrug* So we'll see how it goes!

I got a new laptop keyboard for my birthday! I'm actually portable again! I have to thank the lovely [profile] lynner_k once again for lending me a USB keyboard to get me through. It's always good to have one of those anyway for long typing assignments. But over all I like being able to use the onboard keyboard thingy. It feels so weird to be able to do it again! Yay!

I can't recommend the business I bought this from enough: http://www.parts-people.com. I've bought several replacement keyboards, power cords and hard cases for my Dell laptops from them over the years, and they are reasonably priced and give great service. So if you ever need anything for your Dell, don't pay an arm and a leg to Dell when you can use these folks.

I saw my first Twitter flounce today. Some poor kid didn't get the answer s/he was looking for, so they "quit." I really don't understand the value of a flounce on Twitter. It's not the same back and forth communication you get in other places, like LJ, so the chances of somebody going, "Oh, don't leave!" is pretty slim. It's the virtual equivalent of throwing a tantrum, and what's the point of a tantrum if nobody's really paying attention?

More ways in which high speed internet has made my life so much more fun. I discovered the BBC miniseries (apparently HBO is involved as well, but I got it from BBC America) based on one of my favorite book series, The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency. I've been watching the six episodes of that, and just adoring it, and the music (the series is based in Gabarone, Botswana, Africa) in the series inspires me to want to hear more. I've always liked Sweet Honey in the Rock and Ladysmith Black Mambazo, but other than that, my knowledge of African music is limited to things like Afro Celt Sound System and other fusion kind of stuff under the aegis of "World Music."

So, in order to start satisfying my curiosity, I went -- guess where -- to Last.fm, where I can listen to a wide selection of African musicians on the radio. The internet is a glorious place sometimes. (And yes, the irony of the fact that the people who make the music, and whom the stories are about don't generally have internet access or computers, although that is slowly changing) (the irony that the book series is written by a white British man doesn't escape me either.)

I love Jill Scott, the actress who plays the AWESOME Precious Ramotswe (see icon), I love this series and I wish there was SO much more of it. I need to go back and read it again as well as get hold of the last book. But seriously, my TBR is so out of hand, I can't even seem to time things correctly to keep up with my book club books!

Anyway... Dollhouse now! :)
