Hey, is anybody feeling brave about spreading your fic wings? I posted my first [community profile] comment_ficprompt today, and I sincerely doubt anybody's going to bite. Would any of you like it?

Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Sons of Anarchy, Faith Lehane/Gemma Teller Morrow, "If there was one thing she knew, it was the feeling of being hunted."

You can find the rules for posting over there on the User Info page. It's a fun place to practice your writing. And I want to see if anybody can write this story!

I'm actually working on my first Millennium Trilogy fic based on a prompt over there, but I'm not feeling terribly confident about the voices of the characters. I think it's more difficult to write based on books than on visual mediums, for me. I have the movies, but they're in Swedish, and I KNOW there's a ton of important character stuff lost in the translation to the subtitles. (The versions of the movies I have are REALLY bad.) BUT I'll keep at it. The worst that can happen is a suck story, right? ;)

Check out the community if you haven't -- it's fun.

You know one of the problems I find with watching stuff online -- or on my computer at all, come to think of it -- I'm less likely to write things like this post or fic or whatever. I don't have a problem doing it when something's on the TV, but the computer is more distracting. It's weird. Maybe because it's more immediate, closer to my face? Meh, whatever. Right now I have a split screen with this on one side, and The Wire on the other. We'll see if anything else actually gets written after this.

~

You know, every time I hear somebody cheering over Lorena on True Blood using the "I'll rip out your ribcage and wear it as a hat" line, or see an icon that portrays it, it makes me want to scream and jump up and down and throw a little tantrum because IT WAS ALREADY DONE, AND BETTER! I'm sorry, you can borrow a concept for a line, but stealing it word for word? LAME.

For the uninformed, Buffy said it in the best episode of BtVS EVER (Becoming II), irt Spike being annoying. And yet cool, the way he used to be.

I'm just... Fricking stunned, ya'll.

THIS IS NEVILLE. NEVILLE! LONGBOTTOM!

I... I... have no words. Some kids really luck out with the passing of their adolescence. Others... not so much. Just... dayum, boy! Look at the baby face! Now go back and look at the HOTTIE again!

All this in the middle of an Alexander Skarsgard sexy-off. *G*

~

Wow, this is eye-opening: http://www.worldometers.info/

World statistics in real time. You'll never believe where I got it: Jeff Bridges' Website, which I got to from The Church of Dudeism, of which I am now an ordained minister. I can perform weddings. No shoes allowed, and your ceremony must include at least one four legged animal.

~

This is the weirdest frickin' thing that's ever happened to me on the Internet. I think you sould probably be tripping HARD on something first, or at least stoned.

Warning: NSFW and really, really bizarre and kind of disturbing. Remember a long time ago I pointed out the link with the naked lady sort of pouring through a bunch of clouds out of the sky? It's much, much weirder than that. I have no idea if there's something I'm supposed to be taking away from this, or if it's that kind of art that just... is. *shrug*

I like pictures of kitties and flowers and stuff.

~

Speaking of kitties, I took Charlotte to the vet today, and she got a clean bill of health. So yay! No fleas or anything. And she didn't kill anybody during the exam, so double yay! I thought we'd lose at least a hand or something, but she sat there like a good girl, so we can call it a decent day! :)

Oh, I almost forgot! She did have one serious problem that requires medication...

ACNE. No, srsly. Apparently, the plastic bowls they've been using all their lives collect bacteria and if they don't clean their chins well enough, they get terrible acne. So I had to buy them stainless steel bowls today, and pick them up some Stridex Pads tomorrow!

~

And now... Dragons!

I'm spending some time today trying to burn stuff from my external hard drive to DVD, because I'm all out of space. I have far too many video addictions, ya'll. And you know why I need to move stuff around? Well, yes, for one, there's not enough room to back up my system as things stand right now, but it's mostly because I WANT TO ADD MORE ADDICTIONS to the space. Aiyee.

~

Holy crap! So I was answering my Meme Thing the other day for Pirates of the Caribbean, and I JUST REALIZED that Zoe Saldana (the lovely and awesome Uhura from Star Trek XI) was the fabulous AnaMaria in Pirates I!!! I loved that character, I can't believe I didn't recognize her sooner!

We need to send a clean up crew to the moon. Why did we leave so much shit up there? Literally, if you notice the "Defacation Collection Unit".

Ah, Twilight. Negatively influencing women, de-fanging vampires, and forcing Native tribes to rethink their entire way of life since 2005.

Okay, I know this could get me hamstrung (remember when I DARED to accuse Clay Aiken of being OMGGAY? Yeah.), but does Daniel Radcliffe BONG anybody else's gaydar? Srsly. I know he's British and everything, which can sometimes confuse the issue, but... I'm just not buying his alleged heterosexuality, no matter how many starlets he supposedly dates.

Please pet my dragons. Man I hope this pink otter is a girl.

theantijoss: (Gay Agenda OH NOES!)
Today is the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall Rebellion, which sparked the gay rights movement.

I personally am a pacifist, and I never condone violence as a means to change things. But if I am frustrated with the state of LGBTQ civil rights in this country, I can only dimly imagine how the gays and lesbian of that oppressive day and age must have felt!

Here's a piece from a writer who was there as a young man. It offers a very interesting look at the divisions in the gay community at the time (and still today!) between old-fashioned, closeted fellows and out and flaming sparklers like transvestites and young hustlers. It also busts some myths that have grown up around the riots over the years.

Still -- this is PRIDE MONTH, so it's important for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer and OTHER people and their allies to honor the history of our movement.

I've been watching more Queer Film this month, and so I've added a new category to my Movie Watch '09 List if you want to check it out.

Franklin, Clinton and St. Lawrence counties were designated high-intensity drug trafficking areas Wednesday.

Then how come I can't find any weed?

Heh. That's not true. I know where to get weed. I just can't afford it don't smoke anymore.

~

You know, I grew up miles from here -- I used to party in Rhode Island in my teens. I had NO IDEA its legal name was actually "State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations"! No, seriously! Now I guess they're trying to change it.

Huh. Did my friends in the rest of New England know about this?

~

Ahhhh. I really enjoy some internalized homophobia with my coffee in the morning. Somebody go take this guy's Teh Ghey card away. No more gym or dance club for you, buddy! Although I suspect he's one of those old guys who sits in front of his computer bitching about various things all day and night long.

*realizes she is the pot insulting the kettle* Um...

~

Heh. [community profile] su_herald found a B/A Wedding Cake topper. I want one! Hee.

~

Awesome -- The Vampire Report this week has RECIPES! You know, for when you have dinner with a vampire, and you don't want to embarrass them by eating when all they can do is drink. I actually want to try this. It's near the end. (I swear, HBO's viral campaigns for True Blood are frakking brilliant!)

Please scritch my dragon eggs. I'd feel realy guilty if they died. That's why I never had a Giga Pet, you know.

OMG! HUGE Happy Birthday to the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] simplysonia! I hope you have an awesome day filled with Kellan-y goodness!

TV Guide's 100 Greatest Episodes of All Time include #14: "Once More With Feeling," and #78: "I WILL REMEMBER YOU!" (Plus #95: Supernatural's Season 3 Finale, "No Rest For the Wicked" -- there are TOTALLY better episodes than that.)

Just an interesting tidbit stolen from [livejournal.com profile] killerweasel. I'm all muddled today, so I don't really have much more to say about that besides, "Whee!" and "Who makes this list?" I haven't read the rest yet, so I don't know if there are others I want to comment on.

~

Wow, could I BE anymore boring today? I finally ran my errands, took my pill, so my mind is less fuzzy, and still... I find I have nothing much to say. Funny how I can make an entire LJ post about having nothing to say, isn't it? I just like to type sometimes, I guess. Although it seems a bit like muttering to myself. Hey, I do that too, so why not?

And in closing:

squee. That's all I've got in me today. WTF is up with this code shite?
theantijoss: (Vampires - IwtV Fucking Vampires)
Well, darnit! According to [livejournal.com profile] a2zmom, we missed Penis Day!

Interesting creatures, penises... but isn't every day pretty much Penis Day, at least in Man World?

~

So I'm completely beat again today. My mother woke me up at the ass crack of dawn telling me "OMGTHEINTERNETZISBROKEN!"

In other words: Internet Explorer crashed, so I had to reinstall it. I gave her my usual lecture about how she REALLY should switch to Firefox, but she didn't want to hear it. *sigh*

Four cups of coffee later, and I could still totally lie down and take a nap. Except I don't WANT to take a nap. I have too much stuff to do.

~

Guess what I did? I fell asleep, of course. Then I woke up, ate a turkey dog and tater tots, and watched Party Monster. I *heart* Seth Green, I really, really do. Spent the rest of the evening reading Kradam fanfic (that's Adam Lambert/Kris Allen from American Idol, for those who have not gone completely off the deep end). And now I'm going to alternate between watching Big Eden and reading MORE Kradam fanfic. I just love those two (in fanon). Sticky sweet, opposites attract, all the good stuff.

~

I'm still hunting around for a new ISP since GoDaddy SUCKS SO BADLY. I'm leaning toward FatCow.com, mostly because I can afford it and I adore the name, but I'd love to hear from those of you who haven't suggested anyone yet. I'm lining up all the suggestions and comparing them, and I'll pick one next week at some point.

Alas, my poor domain, owned by a domain squatter, never to be used legitimately again. :(

Hey! This is really cool -- [personal profile] tobyaw created a tool to find out which of your LJ Friends has come on over to DW to play!

~

Is anybody else not getting their LJ notifications... AGAIN? *sigh* FAIL, LJ. BIG FAIL.

Hahahaha Slashy M&Ms! Hee! Australia so pwns us sometimes.

NEW DMB! NEW DMB! NEW DMB! (Gods, I hate iTunes) NEW DMB! Okay, I'm going to get weird and emotional, here... )

FRICKIN DAVE MATTHEWS RULES. OMG THIS ALBUM IS SO GOOD.

"In the past, the reaction to our records has been like having a puppy you fall in love with — in two weeks, you love it more, and in six months, you love it more. This one starts out a good-lookin' dog. And then I think it's only going to get better." - Dave

YES, that's EXACTLY how it is. And he's absolutely right about this album. I don't think I was as instantly hooked by any of their albums before this one. I'm junked out already. Others have sort of grown on me (Stand Up never really has -- I need to give it a better chance, I think), but now they stand as some of my all time favorite records. In fact, it's safe to say that "Before These Crowded Streets" and "Busted Stuff" are in my top 5.

Hulu has some great DMB stuff available. The new band shot makes me sad -- it looks so empty without LeRoi.

The video of my favorite song of all time behind the cut. Crush by the Dave Matthews Band )

~

So, courtesy of a very good media crack dealing friend, I watched LESBIAN VAMPIRE KILLERS last night. Cut for spoilers. )

~

You know something I've learned from being out in Adam Lambert fandom? I had completely forgotten that the vast majority of people outside of LJ are NOT sophisticated about sexuality or LGBT culture and politics. AT ALL. There are some incredibly ignorant, bigoted things being said every few minutes, and it's hard just not to lose my mind and start screaming at people. And these are PRO-Adam people, supposedly! I know it's a lack of exposure/education/whatever, but... I find myself stopping every time sexuality is hinted at, skirted around, dismissed, ignored, or otherwise devalued, and wondering how much good I can do saying anything.

But of course, being the GIANT BIG MOUTH that I am, I got a thread closed today because I quietly flipped out that people were calling pictures of Adam holding his boyfriend's hand coming out of a club "Bad PR." STFU! ARRRGH. I thought I was pretty calm, considering some of the BS being spewed. I think the harshest word I used was "archaic". But still, SNIP, there it went. That is why I have my own squee zone, I guess, but MAN. WTF is wrong with people?

~

And in closing:

Only she made him take a BATH FIRST AND COMB HIS FREAKING HAIR.

Happy birthday, [profile] nariya!

~

I hate hate HATE days when I feel this crappy! I already took two pain pills, and I'm still going OW! MY SQUEEDILY SPOOCH! (Invader Zim reference. *G*) STOP IT, GUT! RIGHT NOW! It is the day before my birthday, and you are NOT allowed to thwart the obscenely huge Tex-Mexy meal I have planned for tomorrow which will require fistfuls of pain meds the next day!

Also, it's supposed to be EIGHTY FIVE DEGREES tomorrow. WTF? Looks like I better clean up The Pit today so I can work down there tomorrow! The dust situation... is not good. Every time the cats wander down there, they come up looking like they grew another whole coat of grey fur. I may have been neglecting The Pit since my Mom's been home from the hospital. It's easy to ignore the rest of the office when I do the laundry -- I just throw things in the appropriate machine, and run away.

I may not be a very good housekeeper. *G*

~

Anyhoo, so can someone explain to me why, even though I have a 5mbs internet signal, I can't download something (at 50k/sec) and watch a YouTube or Hulu video at the same time? Can someone please explain MATH to the internetz, cause this is seriously thwarting my viewing schedule! Also, I haven't managed to successfully burn another DVD in the past few days. I suspect it may have something to do with the Nero update I downloaded, so I'm going to roll it back to the last one and see if that helps.

When it comes to my own stuff, I've mostly just been burning the .avi files to DVD so I can get them off my hard drive to make room for more and watch them on my PC. But things I get for my folks need to work on their DVD player. I'll have to keep working on it.

~

Currently making my way through Merlin and No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, both of which I love... in very different ways, of course. I think Precious is my new hero! And Merlin... dude, I can't remember the last time I saw such a gay show on TV. It's been a while. Seriously. I expect all the characters to just drop and start snogging at any moment -- the girls with the girls, and the boys with the boys. Oh, and why is Giles such a prick? Not in the porn way, either.

Back to the viewing. More tomorrow?
