Or, er... not right, anyway.
Actually there weren't any actual tornadoes today, but up where my girlfriend lives in the mountains, they were looking at the serious possibility of some. Hello, Global Weirding again! In decades (centuries?) past, we've only had to worry about massive snowstorms that left us stuck on the north side of the mountains (the ones south of me, not the northernmost ones where my girlfriend lives.) until spring. Now we've got massive heatwaves, earthquakes, AND tornadoes? Oy.

You know one "positive" thing about me no longer having a paid account anywhere after so many years -- it has seriously curtailed my compulsive icon collecting. I mean, I have to REALLY like an icon to grab it nowdays, knowing that I can only use the 15 that I think express my interests and self the best (at least at the moment).
I wish there was something like that for food, or online adoptables. I've gotten caught up in that crack world again. I spend an hour clicking shit while I drink my tea in the morning. It's just sad.

HAHAHAHAHAAHHAHA!
See? I've always said LOLcats have taken over the world. It only makes sense that the Internet is made of cats.

It's things like this that make me think Twilight has ruined the vampire genre forever (although he's not the only one I might not have put on this particular list). Come on, Flist -- name me a dozen or more screen vampires that are better than Edward Fucking SparklyPeen Cullen.
Shit, Gerard Butler's Dracula is a hundred freaking times better than that dwank (and although I love it with the heat of a thousand firey suns, the movie is a big stinker). Where are Angel and Spike (in that order)? Langella's Dracula?
Come on, let's make a list. A Cullen freaking free list, if you please.

Hey, wasn't I just saying this EXACT thing a few weeks ago? Of course, I have been looking forward to Dinner for Schmucks, because I adore Steve Carell, but now that I know there's a French original, I might need to go looking for that one instead!
Of course, reading the review, it makes me think that I might like the American version better -- I'm sort of in the mood for this to be a shallow farce. I'm not in the mood for thinky humor, which it sounds like the French original is.
(Note: I've actually seen it now, and I found it more sad than funny. I felt too sorry for Carell's character the whole time to really find it funny. And those ( cut for spoilers ) were brilliant, not ridiculous! It's weird that I find Carell so hilarious, but his movies always leave me cold (with the exception of The 40 Year Old Virgin). The same thing happened with Date Night, and I find the US version of The Office insufferable.)

I've had two movie passes sitting around for almost a year -- they're still good for another year, but there are so few movies I think are worth the trouble of a theater. And I mean VERY few. In fact, I prefer watching most things on DVD in the comfort of my own home, with my own food, in my own jammies or whatever. But I am DYING to see that new Gerry Butler rom-com... even though I'm sort of meh on Katherine Heigel, and the rom-com genre died a long time ago, I LOVE GERRY THAT MUCH MORE. I thought maybe I could make an afternoon of it -- go see HP at the first matinee, and then go see the Gerry movie after.
But ugh, the idea of spending that much time in a movie theater does not make for a happy Duckie. I really want to see HP in the theater -- I always do -- but the chairs are uncomfortable, and bringing your own food is likesneaking weed on an airplane flying out of Jamaica bringing your nail clippers on a plane. And I am NOT spending $20 (which I don't have anyway) for a cup of crappy popcorn and flat soda.
Oh, the dilemma! I mean, I do have passes... and I don't HAVE to have snacks...

DON'T MISS the Home Team 2009 Awesomest Female Character Matches! Make sure to vote for Buffy! CLICK HERE FOR HER THREAD -- this is just the nomination round, so stay tuned for more! I actually nominated a few characters (Bette Porter, Aeryn Sun, Rachel Morgan, Eve Dallas) and voted heartily for a bunch of others besides our B. Please check it out. As much as I love Adam and think he is totally the HBIC? He really shouldn't win a contest meant to find the most popular FEMALE.

So... I signed up for
kink_bingo. You guys know I'm so vanilla except for some bloodplay and D/s Bondage fun, so this is REALLY reaching outside my comfort zone. I'm going to TRY for a blackout -- that is, writing a 500 word story for all 25 kinks, but... there are a few on there that are kinda squicky to me. (Hello watersports. *shudder* I'm so sorry to anybody who enjoys it -- this isn't a judgment, it's just not MY kink. They always say, one woman's kink is another woman's squick and vice versa!)
Then again, there are a few that don't squick me, but that I don't really get, you know? One in particular is humiliation. I'm reading about it, read a couple of fics about it, and I think I get some of the psychology of it, but as it's not my kink, I can't really be sure. I don't know. Anyone who can give some insight, email me on the DL ducksfanfic at gmail dot com. I won't share your name.
Anyway, when I start writing the stories, I'll put up a post with my bingo card so you can follow along if you're so inclined. *G* Meanwhile, I have to get back to my Kradam fic, as that's coming up soon! Although first I need to finish my TB commentary -- I just watched the episode again, and it was SO GOOD. Man, if you love vampires and you haven't checked out this show, you really, really need to.

Happy Canada day to my (not too terribly) Northern Neighbors!
~
You know a random fact about Eric Northman (on the show True Blood) that I adore? He is the tackiest fucking dresser in vampire history. No seriously. I mean, okay, Ricean vampires have velvet and frills or whatever, but dudes... Northman is all primary colored tank tops and shiny track suits. Hee. That it detracts not at all from his power or extreme hotness makes me very very happy in my pants.

ANYWAY. So much fic fun going on this summer!

Woohoo! Hot girl on girl action, ya'll! Climb on into our handbasket! You know the girls just don't get enough girllove!

"I'm not homophobic, I just don't like gay people!"
Hey, you know, everybody's entitled to their opinion and to make the rules for their own community, but if its a public, fannish community, you best be prepared for backlash if you're discriminating against a pretty substantial portion of many fandoms! My favorite example is how they shut down ALL submissions from Torchwood because it has teh GHEYS IN ITOMG! I've been told there are HET relationships in that fandom too! So... they're tainted because of their {big announcer voice} DIRECT CONTACT WITH TEH GHEEEEEYYYYYYZ.
I have little or nothing to do with vidding, but I know a lot of people who I like and respect are, and this is just... NOT ON! I mean, really, why is homophobia still so acceptable? Do we need to make up an "ism" in order for it to be a BAD thing? Okay, how about HOMOHATEISM? There, now can we get upset with people for it? Now can it get serious consideration in public discourse right along with other "isms"? I don't know why this made me so angry, but it really, really did. I mean, it's one stupid vid community that I'd never even heard of before the wounderous
sockkpuppett pointed it out, but ON TOP of all the other indignities heaped on the LGBTQ community in recent days/weeks/months/years/decades, it just... ARGH!
Anyway, so... I can't do a damn thing about it accept urge my readers and friends NOT to submit to, vote on, or even publicly acknowledge the existence of this community beyond maybe spreading the word about its bigotry. Just because the owner says "No offense, it's just not to my taste," doesn't change the fact that it's HOMOHATEISM.
Feel free to join the boycott, but please, as pointed out in the post that started it all, http://mresundance.livejournal.com/643042.html, don't bother hating on the HOMOHATEIST. SHUN HIR/THEM. Much more effective in fandom. Oh! And for added interest (if you're interested at all) how about some historical context regarding the vidding community and exclusion of certain kinds of vids? http://morgandawn.dreamwidth.org/998147.html

I just realized, probably half the people on my FList don't even know who the BCR are. Hee. I was never a huge fan, but a good friend of mine was. We would put on their records (on her analogue record player that looked like a denim box) and dance around singing and wishing we could wear our roller skates in the house.
I have to say, I'm blessed to have had such a fun, easy childhood. I mean, after the life-threatening disease was taken care of. But I don't even remember that (I was 4 when I had the open heart surgery to fix it) so it doesn't really count. *G*

Okay, guys, if you like to write drabbles, you SERIOUSLY have to join us over at
drabble on DW!
crevanfox comes up with the most AWESOME prompts, and turns me on to all kinds of poems, plays and literature that I never would have known about otherwise to boot! Seriously, this weeks prompts involve SPOOFS ON MACBETH. Seriously, go look. I'll be laughing (and thinking and writing drabbles) all day. There's no end date on the prompts, so if more than one come to you, you can keep going (which I do all the time) -- we need more than just the two or three of us to make things REALLY interesting, though. *G*
YOU ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY MUST, AT THE VERY LEAST, READ THE SKINHEAD HAMLET (the Oi! kind, not the Nazi kind). I think I broke something laughing. Here's the last few lines:
BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

Hey, you know what else June is besides Pride? It's Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat-Month!
I adopted my sweetie pies in May, but I celebrate all the time. Believe me, if I had my own home, I'd have two more cats, and two dogs besides. I hear people have been dumping their animals at shelters because they're too expensive to keep in this economy, and it really makes me sad. My family is barely getting by, but we would much rather have our furry friends living with us than have, say, cable TV. Just sayin'.

The dates for this year's International Blog Against Racism Week
ibarw are July 27 - August 2. I'm definitely going to have a post for it (at least one) -- this year has been a real struggle for me trying to come to terms with and try to change how I deal with my own privilege, and check my unconscious racism.
I know it's not about me. But you know what? Sometimes, for white people, it IS. It's about you and your place in the world, the way you contribute to or fight against oppression and bigotry. You have to look inside yourself and make changes within as much as without. It's as important for yourself as a whole, healthy, loving human being as it is for the people who ultimately benefit from your changes.
Just mho.
~
WOW! True Blood ratings were phenomenal for a cable show! And this doesn't even count peoplelike me who watch it online or download it because they don't or can't get HBO! W00t!
I've seen a few people complaining, but I've long since learned my lesson about that -- I ignore them! *G* Am I an Eric/Sookie fan and a proud member of Team Eric? Yes. Do I therefore think that there's something inherently wrong with Bill/Sookie shippers and Team Bill or Team Sam people? NO. And I'm staying SIX BILLION MILES AWAY from the brewing shipper wars.
I can smell them that far away, you know. It starts with little barely veiled jabs at the male character you don't like as much, or off the cuff negative things abou tthe other pairing. That's when I click "BACK" and RUN!
Ooh! You know what I'm should do? START A SQUEE COMMUNITY like

An interesting conversation about the Obama administrations OFFENSIVE defense (oxymoron?) of DOMA between two people I really admire:
There are a lot of things going on in the world right now, but Obama needs to say something SOON to distance himself from this anti-LGBTQ garbage, or he's going to lose what little credibility he has left in the gay community.

Speaking of objectifying women and rape culture...
There's a fascinating -- and really, really disturbing -- conversation going on at
cereta's site right now about rape, rape culture, and men's responsibility in the matter. It's so weird (and not in the best way) in the years since I've been out of college and the Women's Studies program, I've become much more deeply involved in gay rights than women's rights specifically (even though the two are inexorably intertwined). It's been a while since I thought about this issue. Anyway, I highly recommend this food for thought.

And just so I don't leave you with such thinky thoughts...

Don't miss Adam Lambert on 20/20 tonight @ 10 EST on ABC -- I don't think you're going to see anything new that you haven't seen if you've followed the whole Rolling Stone thing at all, but hey, you never know with Adam.
Just in case anybody cares. *G*

From my fannish news!crack dealer,
killerweasel:
Kings will finally return to NBC this Saturday, June 13th at 8pm. The show’s remaining seven episodes will continue to run weekly, through to the series’ finale on July 25, wrapping up all major storylines
*sigh* I'll watch, because I'm obsessive like that and I NEED to find out what happens. I swear, I want to SLAP NBC for canceling it. Along with the Unusuals.

I'm currently re-watching Season 1 of The L Word, which I loved the first time, then season 2, which did nothing for me, so I can go on to the last four seasons for... reasons I'm not entirely sure of yet beyond "Shane is HAWT!"
But haven't we already established that I'm shallow, and sometimes that's enough? *G*
