And Happy Samhain to my Pagan friends! Don't forget to honor the beloved dead while you enjoy your candy.

I hope you all have a plentiful harvest! Or at least get some yummy corn, pumpkins, and squash. *G*

I'm like, a day behind on comments about shows and stuff because I'm pretty much a day behind on watching everything. Keeping up with premieres is starting to get stressful! I think I sort of snapped last night because like, 12 things were either premiering or airing, and I couldn't handle the decisions... so I kept watching The Wire.

Sons of Anarchy S03E03 )

I sort of had Hell's Kitchen muted in the background last night and... well, it pretty much looked like more of the same: contestants screw up, Chef freaks out. With everything that's on at this time, I don't think I need to keep up with it this season -- it should stay an off season show.

Did anybody catch The Whole Truth? I want to try that. I heard ungood things about Undercovers... like the use of the word "sexpionage," which... ew. I don't know, I might still give it a try. There's just too much on this fall, and like I said, I don't see how I can keep up.

TV IS MAKING ME UPSET. IT'S LIKE THE END OF THE WORLD, MAN!

Interesting Meta post about Web 1.0 vs. Web 2.0 and us Old Schoolers vs. the N00bs and how we interact on LJ/DW vs. FB. Wow, that's a lot of versus. Anyway, food for thought. Where did our anonymity go? Somebody sold it to advertisers. *sigh*

The Muppets do.... TRUE MUD.

What gets me is Muppet Bill flopping his hair all over the place. Hee.

To all of my Jewish friends on the beginning of Yom Kippur: I hope you have an easy fast.

Billie Mae Richards, the voice of CBS's classic Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 88. Awwww. RIP, Rudolph.

Before I forget -- you know how I was whining about there being no community on LJ to honor my current favorite fictional character, Lisbeth Salander, or the universe she comes from, THE MILLENNIUM TRILOGY by Stieg Larsson? Well, I decided to do what I usually do, and MAKE ONE. If you're a fan, or a NON-fan who would like to debate or discuss (calmly, thank you), please come on by. I suspect traffic will get heavier once the American versions of the movies come out... but you guys know how I feel about that. LOL

It's kind of sad today that a soap that I've watched for as long as I can remember is going off the air. Yes, sad, even though it's gotten increasingly stupid over the years. *sniffle*

Oh, and in another of my soaps (the last one, now) I TOTALLY CALLED the big twist ending. Which, I know, isn't really hard when it comes to soaps. There's only so many in existence, and they get rotated in and out as needed. But hey, give me a break, huh? LOL

I really miss having more icons. *sigh*

How is everybody on this... gray and crappy May Day? *G*

The sleep study was weird. I mean, it's not exactly the best night of sleep I've ever had in my life. Remember the picture of the last time I went? Well, take away the thing in my nose and add a mask, and you've got a more accurate nightmare vision. I should be getting my contraption within the next few days. I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. I mean, I didn't feel like I got any sleep the other night, but the technician said once I fell asleep, I stayed there and had a pretty long, REM-intensive sleep, which is the point. *shrug* So we'll see how it goes!

I got a new laptop keyboard for my birthday! I'm actually portable again! I have to thank the lovely [profile] lynner_k once again for lending me a USB keyboard to get me through. It's always good to have one of those anyway for long typing assignments. But over all I like being able to use the onboard keyboard thingy. It feels so weird to be able to do it again! Yay!

I can't recommend the business I bought this from enough: http://www.parts-people.com. I've bought several replacement keyboards, power cords and hard cases for my Dell laptops from them over the years, and they are reasonably priced and give great service. So if you ever need anything for your Dell, don't pay an arm and a leg to Dell when you can use these folks.

I saw my first Twitter flounce today. Some poor kid didn't get the answer s/he was looking for, so they "quit." I really don't understand the value of a flounce on Twitter. It's not the same back and forth communication you get in other places, like LJ, so the chances of somebody going, "Oh, don't leave!" is pretty slim. It's the virtual equivalent of throwing a tantrum, and what's the point of a tantrum if nobody's really paying attention?

More ways in which high speed internet has made my life so much more fun. I discovered the BBC miniseries (apparently HBO is involved as well, but I got it from BBC America) based on one of my favorite book series, The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency. I've been watching the six episodes of that, and just adoring it, and the music (the series is based in Gabarone, Botswana, Africa) in the series inspires me to want to hear more. I've always liked Sweet Honey in the Rock and Ladysmith Black Mambazo, but other than that, my knowledge of African music is limited to things like Afro Celt Sound System and other fusion kind of stuff under the aegis of "World Music."

So, in order to start satisfying my curiosity, I went -- guess where -- to Last.fm, where I can listen to a wide selection of African musicians on the radio. The internet is a glorious place sometimes. (And yes, the irony of the fact that the people who make the music, and whom the stories are about don't generally have internet access or computers, although that is slowly changing) (the irony that the book series is written by a white British man doesn't escape me either.)

I love Jill Scott, the actress who plays the AWESOME Precious Ramotswe (see icon), I love this series and I wish there was SO much more of it. I need to go back and read it again as well as get hold of the last book. But seriously, my TBR is so out of hand, I can't even seem to time things correctly to keep up with my book club books!

Anyway... Dollhouse now! :)
