Don't forget, tomorrow's a big TV night! True Blood starts at 9 EST on HBO! *dances madly* I can't WAIT!

Speaking of...

This just... really moved me. And frightened me, and made me think about the kind of world we're living in, and how many of my friends and neighbors face deadly bigotry every day of their lives. This reminds me what privilege is REALLY about -- that I don't have to worry about that kind of violence. For all that I experience discrimination because I'm queer-ish or poor or fat or suffer from chronic illness, chances are good that nobody will ever try to kill me for these things. They're not right there on the surface, or they don't engender violence the way other kinds of bigotry do.

RIP Stephen Tyrone Johns, hero.

The other day I expressed my fear about going to the UU church in town because one whackjob decided just such a church would be a great place to shoot Liberals. That incident was the first time since 9/11 that I really thought, "Holy shit! Somebody could try to kill me because I go to a liberal church!" A fear that a lot of my friends and neighbors have to worry about ALL THE TIME. And reading this NPR article made me feel even more strongly that I CAN'T let that fear stop me. For the sake of all my friends who suffer REAL discrimination and bigotry, we HAVE to stand up and not allow fear to control us. It's cliche but, we cannot let them win!

So if I don't go to church in the next couple of weeks, it'll be because I'm lazy or tired or sick, NOT because I'm scared of the batshite rednecks running around with rifles who want to kill me for being liberal!

And my brain immediately goes, "I wonder if I have anything appropriate to wear to church." LOL I'm so adaptable... or possibly emotionally scattered, or both. *G* I think pretty much everything I own that's not shorts or sweats is black. Hm. It's been a while since I had to look decent going out. LOL.

Congrats to the great Sir Christopher Lee on his Knighthood. It's about freakin' time, considering some of the fools who've been given the honor in recent years!

The always wonderful and articulate [personal profile] liz_marcs has a post about Domestic Terrorism, and WHY aren't these terrorists being treated as such?

This, borrowed from my friend [profile] kita0610 makes it all feel so much more personal. I get increasingly horrified -- like these atrocities aren't horrifying enough -- that these vicious, bloothirsty, hate-mongering TERRORIST murderers are attacking people in what should be SAFE, SACRED places. Churches. Museums. You know, I had given some though to joining our local UU church, as they are usually welcoming of people from all faiths, and I thought I could use the community, the interaction with other people outside of the medical profession and fandom.

But after the shooting last year in a UU church in Tennessee made me rethink that. I don't know how to respond to this kind of violence. It makes me not want to leave the house at all, sometimes. Who knows what the next target could be? But how can we stop living our lives, which only allows these monsters to determine what we do, where we worship?

I just don't know.

In more fannish news (this kind of a 180 feels so weird, and yet... comes so natural to me. What does that say about my character?). SO MUCH TV GOODNESS COMING! True Blood starts this Sunday, and Merlin is coming on the 21st!

And an awesome Merlin Re-watch (or first watch!) @[profile] thefuturequeen: Right HERE!

Summertime TV is fun TV! *G*

Interesting meta about Buffy's Angel Issues when it comes to Spike and Spuffy. I don't necessarily agree with everything, but it's definitely a good read. Note especially the exchange between [personal profile] gabrielleabelle and [personal profile] dlgood in the comments. Food for thought!
