(I might as well post it, who knows if I'll have a chance to post today?)
You know what I hate? Seeing vague comments about kerfuffles without any reference point or links or anything. It makes me curious, and then annoyed because I don't know WTF is going on. Context, please, or just FLock it! Sheesh.

I am Unwell today. A lot of the reason I didn't post around here for so long was because most of my posts would have been various lists of WHY I feel Unwell today. Nobody wants to read that every day, day in and day out, you know? So I'm just letting you know, in case I'm extra cranky.
~
Another reason I'm so cranky: I only got about four hours of sleep (BAD for me) because I HAD to finished THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO. Really enjoyed it, even though it was bleak and that ending was SO HARSH. I kind of wish they had kept the original Swedish Title, "Men Who Hate Women," because it tells you a lot more about the story than the Americanized title does. But, whatever. We just can't have nice things because we're so wanky and spoiled as a country.
I have such a long TBR list, that I don't know if I should go on to the sequel (THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE) quite yet. I've been reading stuff around the net about it, and about the author (and all the drama surrounding his death and the possible outlines of more books in the series), and I confess, that's almost as compelling as the books themselves. It's sad that he never got to really enjoy the full popularity of his work, though.
I am so tired today, I just can't put words together well. I was planning to write all day, since I didn't write anything for the past two days due to Vampire Diaries bingeing, but I can barely write coherently here. I can't take a nap because I have laundry to do, have to take a shower and get to an appointment later on, and I just can't do naps. I don't know why, but when I go to sleep, that's IT. I'm down for at least 8 or 9 hours if I don't set an alarm. I so admire the people who can lie down for twenty minutes, then pop up and be all chipper and shit. Me, if I have to get up again before morning, I just feel worse.
See? CRANKY! And nauseous. I had my Crohn's treatment yesterday, and I'm always nauseous for a day or so afterward. Don't you love medical treatments that make you feel like crap? Yeah, I thought so.
Speaking of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, I also got a hold of the Swedish movie adaptation. Really good movie, and I just loved the casting. Of course, they had to cut out A LOT of the book, but I think they did a good job keeping the really important stuff/the right stuff, and only changing things to keep the pace of the movie going. The book starts REALLY slowly, and a movie would totally just crash and burn with that much exposition and setup. I have to tell you, I'm reeeeally not interested in the American version being made now. I would much rather see the ORIGINAL version with subtitles. I realize a lot of people don't like subtitles, but I don't mind them if the movie is good. It's like "Let the Right One In" (coincidentally, also Swedish) -- I don't want to see the American version of THAT, either. And "Death at a Funeral": the British original (which, Firefly fans should note, features Alan Tudyk running around naked through most of the movie) was hilarious. The American version looked like a big stinker. I can't discribe the differences when some great European movie gets "Americanized", but it's almost like you take something made with great artisanship (word use?) with brass and silver or something lovely, shiny, and interesting (or harsh depending on the story) and remake it in cheap plastic with one dimension and none of the soul.
Heh. I sound so snobby. But that's my story, and I'm sticking to it. Besides, I'm really CRANKY that Hollywood, which is supposed to be thecesspool epicenter of movie entertainment, is cranking out nothing but remakes, adaptations and franchises these days, with a little utter crap thrown in for good measure. Why is no one making anything taking even a vague stab at originality anymore? I suppose it has to do at least in part with the economy -- nobody wants to invest money unless they know they're going to get something back, so sure things are the only way to go. Art suffers, blah blah, but oy is it annoying.

It's so funny... I TOTALLY wrote off Vampire Diaires after the premiere. I read the post I did about it, and wow was I unimpressed at the time. See, this is why I should not watch television shows except in ENTIRE SEASONS -- for some reason I've lost the ability to get into a week to week format of anything, and even if I do hang on, I either get bored or pissed off and tend to wander away. If I get a whole season, I can get the whole story in one chunk.
I think my patience shrinks substantially every year that goes by, ya'll. Of course, the issue with watching entire seasons of TV at once is that YOU HAVE TO WAIT FOR FREAKING EVER, and the new season is going on even as you're waiting, and it can't hurt to just tune in for a few episodes...right?
Which brings us back to the initial problems. I think the trick is to watch shows I don't really care very much about in real time to keep myself occupied, then gather up all my favorite shows for a GLUT during the summer.
Or, you know, I could do something radical like turn off the television entirely. Heh. Yeah, right. Right now I'm glutting on Legend of the Seeker, Season 2, which has its ups and downs (especially in comparision to season 1, but isn't that always the way it is?), but I have this compulsion that once I start following a story, I HAVE TO FIND OUT HOW IT ENDS! Plus, Kalan and Cara are really hot. And they pulled me totally in by killing Charisma Carpenter's character in episode one. Not that I have anything against her, but you know I have my lingering Cordelia issues. (I'm sorry, but she's really a terrible actress. I didn't buy her as a Mord Sith at. All.)

Hey, you know what else I hate? This annoying and increasing habit that people have of NOT SPELLING OUT ANY WORDS AT ALL, but only using acronyms for every freaking thing now. It's right up there with the now aging ridiculous shortening of WORDS THAT DON'T NEED TO BE SHORTENED. I know everybody has texting and Twitter disease, but I'll tell you... I have no freaking idea what you're talking about most of the time, and if you talk like that, especially here on LJ? I'm just ignoring you.
